Fresh Bread
Nothing like the smell of fresh bread to make a house smell like a home….and less like rotten garbage that should have gone out a day earlier.
Can’t wait for that stuff to come out of the oven and into my mouth…NOM NOM NOM
Engagement Chicken Part 2
So the first time I tried the “engagement chicken,” it was undercooked and I may have served my husband up a case or salmonella rather than romance. I started calling it “divorce chicken,” or at least a “legal separation,” chicken. For those of you that cook, you will know that I had the simple issue of under cooking my bird, rather than anything.
Mind you, I...

Don't Quit Your Dayjob - The Reprise
I have to admit my hopes were dashed, after my stock-turned-aspic event. I took that giant bowl of gelatinous chicken sludge and threw it back on the stove for another 6 hours. I reduced it to about 20 ounces. I started with about a gallon or so of liquid and it had become this thick brown goodness.
So it wasn’t a total loss and it turned out beautiful. I made my “engagement...
Don't Quit Your Dayjob!
I am not sure if anyone else suffers from this, but I often think I am better at something that I actually am. In this case, it refers to cooking and what I think I am great at, is making stock. Chicken stock, specifically.
My husband and I are pretty good at eating healthy and I mostly cook pretty healthy stuff at home. One of the things I like to do, is strip rotisserie chickens and use the...
Monterey Farmers Market - The Fish Guy
So today is Tuesday and it is my favorite farmer’s market day. I love this market because it is open from 4-7 most of the year and 4-8 in the Summer. That means I can actually do my day job and still hit the market after work.
I tried the fish guy for the first time today. I only wanted to try some crab cakes. I asked the guy to look at them before I bought it in case it was made...

Hit the cheese shop in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, today and did the wine and cheese pairing, too. Whoa! What a treat! You can taste everything in there if you want, but get there early because it was jumping! I ended up with a couple aged Gouda - one cow and one ewe (ewephoria 7 yr), a Brie style goat and a Dutch aged cheddar style. Mmmmm. The wines were unexpected and amazingly a Northern Spain...

I Went to Bed in the Fetal Position...
MMMM…..I LOVE French food! Let me repeat….I LOVE French food. However, it does not always love me. I had so much deliciousness last night that I was drunk on butter - I didn’t even realize that was possible! I was so utterly stuffed from the cheese, pate, wine (red & white), gnocchi, coq au vin…..you get the idea. I knew I should have stopped at using my bread like...
Inspiration
James Beard really sums it up when he talks about food being universal. It transcends language, religion and politics. While we may experience it differently and be influenced in the way we eat based on religion, geography and so forth, one thing remains the same…we all need food. It is that simple connection that has inspired me to embrace this new blog experience and celebrate my base...
Food is our common ground, a universal experience.
